tried search on this crappy old iPad...please don't fry me
I've gone down that road before. I had a 6.0 that already had studs, oil cooler, BPD egr cooler etc and only 160k miles. I looked into converting it to 4wd.
I came to the conclusion that unless you find a donor truck for the 4x4 parts and you are able to do some heavy wrenching, it just wasn't worth it. A shop that was willing to convert it wanted 4 grand for labor alone if I supplied the parts truck. Other shops wouldn't even entertain the idea.
I think it boils down to how much time, and commitment, you are willing to put forward.....and as mentioned finding the parts cheap enough.
It's going to end up being a research project of sorts.
That said there are guys that have stuffed a 6.0 in a Crown Vic, so if you wanted to bad enough I'm sure it can be done.
yeah I got a guy that can get me a donor truck drivetrain/ft suspension minus engine for 600-1000..... I can do the mech & fab work.... electrical not as good.... trans no.... hence the mainshaft question.....
if I could sell my 2wd for decent coin then it would be no issue..... sofar no takers & 4wds are 4-7k more than my ride in similar shape......
since people lift cabs off to bulletprooof & beds are simple, maybe I'm missing something?
Not an answer, but find a 4wd VIN on a site like Auto trader and use it to look for parts at Auto Nation White Bear lake and look for a replacement transmission. Then see if they come up with the same part number for your 2wd VIN.
