Hey tfarr. Welcome!
Being a 2-wheel drive, I'm not as familiar so will leave it to the others. Even though I don't know the answer to your question yet, I'm sure it's been done so someone will have some insight.
In the meantime, hope you and your son get lots of enjoyment out of the truck.

to swap the manual to power steering you will need the pump, pump brackets, gear box and the steering column. Your best bet would be to find a parts truck with all the components needed

If your F150 is 2WD, you do not want Power Assist P/S because it was only used with 4WD

You need to find a 1973/76 F100, 1975/76 F150 w/a 360 or 390 engine and remove all the P/S related parts.

P/S pump and gearbox, pressure and return hoses, any related pulleys and etc.

This is Ford/Saginaw P/S, the P/S pump has a steel reservoir, the P/S pressure hose threads onto the pump.
