fuel pump

Does everyone replace the whole fuel pump/sending unit assembly? or can you just change the actual pump itself? Mine hasnt failed yet, but ive got 162k on it and id rather do it now than get stuck broke down somewhere. I also have to fix the one rust bubble right near the seam where the halves meet
Thanks
Rich

I just buy the entire pump unit. That way you get a new level gauge / wiring / etc.... I buy them on e-bay for about $50. Never had a problem with aftermarket yet ........ Just did my 2002 CREW. Some rust on top and one strap was bad....... No thin spots or holes in tank... I wire brushed then put rust converter on prior to reinstall.
