1959 F350 3 door 4x4

Hello
i own a 1959 F350 4x4 3 door, I’m trying to do a little research on it, I understand these are a rare truck, but how rare? and it was most likely a specialty order built by the Orville cab company, it has a 292 y block, with a factory pto winch, it’s alittle rough, I’m looking for some front fenders, but for the most part it’s pretty solid, any info is greatly appreciated.

I've seen two 1956 3 door versions and a '56 4 door version. These were converted from two door regular cabs by Crown Coach in Los Angeles CA. At least one was done for Standard Oil of CA

Crown also converted 1961/64 and some 1965 F350 Crew Cabs.

Welcome to the forum. We’d all love to see pictures of your truck, and I for one would like to know who did the 4x4 conversion. Ford pulled the 4x4 builds on the F-100s and F-250s in-house in 1959, but would have continued to have F-350 and larger truck conversions done by Marmon-Herrington, or dealer converted by Napco and maybe Fabco. The three door or four door body, in combination with the 4x4, is as good as it gets. Stu

I think hands down the most interesting old trucks, especially old 4x4s, that show up here are found in BC. Your truck has no exterior markings to show the 4x4 conversion company. Are there any interior badges or instruction plates that might tell or give a hint? Please respect the 17” wheels. They have outer rims known as the Firestone RH-5° widow maker. Stu

Do you have a VIN plate in the glove box? If so please share along with any other tags on the dash if a military vehicle and possibly the conversion tag on the passenger’s rear seat frame. Also does the cab have the triangular cab braces just behind the back doors. All of this will help us tell exactly what you have.

this is what I’ve found out so far
It is a Canadian built truck
15978–consecutive build number
B — is GVW (6000-10000lb)
4– is Ford F-350– 8 cylinder
83— pick up
35 —- flare side
30— 130” wheel base
Z—1960
L— left hand drive / unit built at Oakville Ontario assembly plant

I’m also told very few of these F-350’s were converted to crew cabs
and even less were converted to 3- door crew cabs.
There is build tags attached to the seats, I have to clean tags for more info
in short this truck may be a holly grail of 1960 F-350 3- door crew cabs
more info to come

Canadian only codes on Canadian only Rating Plate, I can decode some of it. US VIN and Rating Plate is completely different.

15978 = Numerical Sequence of Assembly.

B = 6,000-10,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating range.

4 = V8 engine.

83 = Flareside Pickup.

35 = 350 series.

30 = 130" Wheelbase.

Z = ?

L = Left Hand Drive.

01 = ?

1GG = ?

4.86-1 = Timken model B140 Rear Axle, 7,200 lbs. Axle Capacity.

F = Ford / F350 / 130" Wheelbase.

7,600 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

ZW = ? probably 292 2V / 4 SPD = Borg-Warner T-98.

Note inre to body styles:

80 = Cab & Chassis with factory installed Flatbed; 81 = Cab & Chassis (no back of cab equipment); 82 = Panel; 83 = Flareside Pickup; 86 = Cab & Chassis with factory installed Stake Bed; 99 = Styleside Pickup.
