Was pulling the boat home the other day and ECT hit 206 and the truck turned off . No check engine light . Let it sit temp went down to 190. Fired up almost made it home same thing .
This is the fun part , I live in ga and this truck typically runs about 170 deg . I have a upgrade radiator and I never had any issues so I didn't think anything about it . Well after the above issue I decided at 190k miles I'll change the tstat and fan clutch assembly easy pz . Well not the truck runs 190 deg and gets to 193-197 while driving . Engine oil stays around 175-185 . From what I've found searching that's "normal for my area "
Haven't got to hook the boat up yet and see what happens but my main question is what could cause the truck to die at 206 twice and do you think the tstat that was in the truck was stuck open for almost a yr and a half ?

my 04 always runs about 170 too. I’ve figured I’ve got a bad tstat. I’ve been planning to replace it to bring it up to around 195. I’ve read that’s optimal for these trucks and better mpg too. And regardless how well your radiator is, your tstat should maintain the set tstat temp if it’s functioning properly.
Do you have any way to monitor data or check for DTC ‘s. Water temp @206 will not turn truck off. What was oil at that time. If it had gotten too hot it would have thrown a CEL then defueled before it shut completely off (somewhere around 240). Something else is going on.
Post your ICP and IPR numbers during cranking and also running. I suspect that it has thrown a DTC and your Edge is not picking it up. It could be a list of many things. A wire short, a malfunctioning IPR. A shorting Cam/Crank sensor. EGR/Fan short. The cooling/oil temps you were showing will not cause a truck to shut off. Right now I highly suspect a failing IPR, BUT that is a GUESS. If you have a friend with ForScan or Torque Pro have them run a DTC scan on it to help narrow it down. If you don’t find it, it will sooner or later leave you stranded.
Ok changed fan clutch, tstat, and Degas bottle and lid . Drove home everything seemed fine . Pulled in the driveway and truck died . This time I have a 2623 code
Thats what I thought it was. I would replace the IPR and the pigtail. It’s up under/behind the turbo and a little bitchy to get to, but it can be done in about 45min or less. You’ll need a special IPR socket to get it off. Do not buy a chinese replacement IPR. Ford OEM only. If you shop you can get it for $200.00 or less. Good luck
Good news is I'm not running over 201 deg even while pulling the boat so that makes me happy. Guess i cant complain about typical maintenance. New Motorcraft IPR on the way .
