You all are making me paranoid now. Finally got my Ex pretty close to the way I want it. Guess I’d better look at securing it now.

I haven't had a break-in during my 10+ years of ownership (and I live in the 8th largest city in the country). I also don't have any bling on it (inside or out) so it doesn't really stand out in a parking lot except for the faded paint.
I cut my alarm out as it was acting up but I have a Hydra wich has a NO START position. I can set that, remove the head, and know that even if they get in they can't start it.
Here is what I did with my door lock, I figured it should make any temptation less as there is nothing to punch out, will be looking at the jimi jamers as the next layer and be done, Who is with you for really wanted the truck they will figure out a way to make it disappear, so I’m just going to do a multi layer determined approach and leave it at that and not worry
Insurance is your best bet against losing everything in the instance theft happens.
I installed Jimi Jammers from RiffRaff, but only because I was replacing the lock actuators at the same time.
If we go anytime RV'ing, I will invest in the Cyclops remote system.
I also have the Hydra no start, but I don't care to remove the control box too many times because the connection is just a ribbon cable.
I also carry a hand gun on my side most times I am out. I also keep a rifle in the camper that is one of the "black scary guns only designed to kill humans". The rifle is more of a just in case when we are out boondocking and miles away from anyone else. We have seen bears and large animals approach our camp, but never had to fire a shot in self defense, thankfully.
The hand gun/s (wife carries as well) are more for defense against the human variety that wish to do us harm. It has happened in the past, and I hope it never happens again. But, if it does, we will be ready.
Do what you can to keep your things safe, that is all you can do. Live life as you can, tomorrow is not guaranteed.
Removing or hardening the door locks won't keep someone out, but it can help. Visual deterrents like a steering wheel club might send them looking for an easier target. Lojack or some other tracking device stickers might help deter them. A jimmy jammer may have helped in this case, but at that point they've already damaged the door and might just move on to trying the other door or breaking the glass.
Nothing will stop them from damaging it and getting in, but a "kill switch" can keep it from leaving. I used to install them on our rental fleet trucks, something similar to what's in the linked disabler thing a couple posts back but the relays opened the circuit every time the ignition was turned off so the truck would always be protected without any input needed. To enable the ignition you turned the key to on and tapped the windshield washer button, that engaged the relays to power the ECM. I don't remember how they were wired, but it was two normal relays. One was activated by the washer button and it activated the other one which then stayed on sending the ECM power, I think there was a diode involved between them to keep the second one live after the tap of the washer button.
In one of my cars I interrupted the fuel pump power so that it would prime but not stay on with the engine running. If it were started without engaging the kill switch the engine would start then sputter out, hopefully making the thief think it was broken rather than trying to figure out why it wouldn't crank or start like a 'normal' kill switch does. To enable it you had to hold the throttle open and tap the horn while the pump was doing its two second prime. There's lots of high and low tech ways to do a kill switch. A hidden switch, a magnetic switch, multiple switches that all have to be on, etc.
Yeah, I just read this thread and all I could think was "Just install a kill switch".
And it only takes a piece of cardboard & a marker to write on that informs the "would be OR professional thief" that there is a hidden kill switch.
That way, maybe (if they read ENGLISH!) they won't ruin your locks or bust out your glass. They will just move on to easier pickins!
The ones on drugs are probably going to do damage anyway just because , well, their on drugs.
The ignition on my motorcycle broke and now it has 6 toggle switches. (3 on each side). No key required. I have had a few people try to get it started. NO luck yet. But Kawasaki ignitions had something of a theft deterrent built into the OEM ignition. Hint, There are 2 toggles that must be switched at the SAME TIME (or within one second of each other) or it will not start.... So even if you get the positions correct, If you don't throw those 2 at the same time it just cranks but NO start. This is also REAL good way to have ignition if you like to drink a few beers and go out in the woods and ride some trails. It's real easy to loose your key walking around in the woods and REAL HARD to push a 500 pound road bike without it running . Even on FLAT TRAILS!!! LOL DDT
I know that "deleating" the door lock or installing jimi jammers will do nothing but make it harder, but remember one simple thing, no matter how many levels or layers we install to deture theft if a criminal type really wants something they WILL find some way to achieve their goal, weather it means having a flat bed to take your truck, or "chopping" your truck or what ever, the ideas in this thread are just suggestions to make it harder for the avrage joe joy rider to hop in and take the truck on a 5 fingure free ride
If you are running a F5 (or F6) DPtuner won't unplugging the switch disable the engine? for some reason I thought it did but never tried it. I'll try this when I get home.
I have a hidden disable switch in addition to the key ignition on my Harley, still have it after 17 years ;-)
