Have a 1988 2.9 bronco ii with 340000+ miles. About 15000 miles ago problems with starters occurred. Yes starters, just put the 5th one in her today! Have replaced the fly wheel but this did not help. 1/2 dozen starts today and I can already hear the grumblings of a worn starter????????? Please help...............
hopefully you're just replacing the starter drive and not the whole starter, mine went out in the 84 I used to have and it was only lik2 $15 for the starter drive, but I never hadproblems with it again after that.
make sure that the starter you are using is a ten tooth starter and not a nine tooth, went through the same problem, 7 starters in 5 days, took the last one back to oreillys and went to carquest, bought a different type of starter, same problem, took it back and checked with the warehouse, they said that if it was for a bronco ii that i needed a starter with ten teeth, that was two years ago with no problems since.
Do you have a part number? Seems that the parts stores here in western SD can only count to nine. They seem to think a ten tooth is an imaginary part?????????????
