302 swap.

Hi all, Me and my brother are thinking about swapping in a mid 80s 302 in place for the inline four banger. Its a 92 ranger with the 5 speed standard.
What all would this swap involve?
All help is apprieciated.

302 swap.

If you haven't bought the 80s model 302....find a younger year.

Of course, if you have rebuilt it to newer specs, swap away.

Those mid 80s smog-era engines were nothing to brag about. the hp ratings might be close to the 4 banger you have now....well, close enough to make the swap a waste of time....

302 swap.

Well, My friend is swaping in a 351c in place of the 302 on his 86 mustang. So I can get his old 302 for cheap, and they didnt change much on those engines thru the years. I can get just as much power from this engine as any other. It will be getting a full rebuild before going into the ranger.
Thanks tho

302 swap.

You can do almost any swap if you have enough money. Besides the engine you will need a transmission and rear end.

302 swap.

you will need to drop about 40 hours of your tiem to start, if your a experianced mechanic. i would recomend having acess to a shop or grage of some sort with a few tools. but you will need:

motor
trany
t-case- if 4x4
radiator
drive shaft
remote oil filter
special headers
if fuel injected-wireing harness, that matches the tranny
also, like mike was saying, if you have the 7.5 rearend, you might
want to swap that out too
depending on the tranny you want- adapter for t-case
possibly different bell house, and input shaft

check out james duff's web site they have a pretty good over view

check out advance adapters depending on the 5spd you can keep it. if it is 4x4 they sell an adapter to go to a v8 trans and no drive shaft changes are needed. i have done a 4wheel drive efi v8 swap and a carbed 2wheel swap, its not that bad
