Anyone have any thoughts/ideas if you could purchase the "smooth" B pillar keypad used on the Expedition and put it on the super duty?
I believe the cabs are similar, but not sure if they are similar enough to do a swap like that...
The explorer has the same keypad too. I really love the stealthy look but I absolutely hate trying to dial in the number with no physical bearings/feedback.
I'm doubting this is possible without some serious modding involved.
My wife's escape has that keypad as well. I actually managed to lock the doors with keys inside while washing it with the pressure washer. I didn't know her code but thankfully was at home! Not a big deal if you know the code. Ha!
Limited has the raised buttons. I like them. I probably wouldn't like the smooth simply due to scratching the black with how dirty rigs get here in the NW.
I had the smooth keypad on my SHO, and I loved the hidden look and never had a problem with performance. If you use the keypad constantly, maybe the buttons are better, but I don't use the keypad daily.
The SHO also had "touch screen" type buttons for all the dash controls like A/C, radio, etc. and I loved that too. Then I got my newer truck with actual old-school buttons and I felt like I stepped back 20 years in technology.
I have the hidden keypad on my '15 Fusion and have never had a problem with it. But, myself and MadeinDade are both in Florida. Maybe they do not work well in the northern climates?
In my opinion the hidden keypad looks better than the buttons. I would imagine that software wise they function the same. If the plug on the harness and trim plate are the same they might be plug and play.
If they are interchangeable, maybe Ford will put them on the Limited to seperate it a little more from the Platinums?
He said the factory keypad was just over $30. If the Hidden keypad is similarly priced, it would be cheap enough to plug it into your trucks harness and see if it would work. Then the only other thing to consider is if the pillar trim panel is the same between the trucks and the Expidetion.

In order to get the smooth keypad, you would have to replace the entire pillar trim panel and it will definitely be more expensive than $30. The smooth keypad is built into the pillar trim panel, it doesn't have a cut-out for the keypad like the rubber button one does.
