I talked to a Master Locksmith who told me that the 2018's were having problems doing this procedure and I'd have to go to stealer. I say - if the truck is supposed to do it, then it should and I shouldn't have to pay them. It might be related to Sync 3.0 12Farmer has a new key from stealer and he can't do it. I bought mine of eBay and it won't work. I don't think it's us. Just sayin !
I appreciate the suggestions from others to take more time with the programming process, but it unfortunately didn't make any difference for me. Going to dealer tomorrow to have them go through the process and program the darn thing.
Back from the dealer, and they couldn't make the programming procedure work either. So they said what do you want to do? I said make it work or provide me a new procedure for my 2018 so I can do it myself (since no one there had programmed a key yet for a 2018 Super Duty). They said IDS could do it, but there would be a charge. I said I'm not paying for anything further since I'd already bought the key from them. They took it back to the service dept. and after 30 minutes or so, came back with my truck and 3 working keys (the new one and my 2 originals). I thanked the service advisor and left not having to pay any more money.
Either there's no longer a way for the customer to do this, or the procedure needs to be updated by Ford. I'm not sure what, but it seems something isn't working on 2018 Super Duty models.
Those of you having trouble make sure the key is the same frequency as your other keys that do work. Different vehicles use different frequencies on their keys and it might not match but look exactly the same.
I bought on Amazon New 3 Button 2016 Ford F150 F-Series Flipkey 164-R8130 N5F-A08TAA
after calling 4 places I found a dealer who cut the key for free.
Programming will not work on my 2018
took a photo and enlarged so I can read numbers on my original key which are IC 3248A-A08TAA 81AA COFETEL:RLWAA012-0480 FCC ID N5F-A08TAA (this number matches exactly on the 3rd key.) Model A08TAA FL3T-15K601-AC 010182-03592
Sent a message to the seller but he said this is the only option for a 3 button fob without remote start.
Added 05/11/18 I measured the new key fob battery voltage (3.0) and it was good (3.4)
Tried the start with first key tried fast tried slow
Did note display says no key when I put the new 3rd key in and rotate.

Well I just got back from dealer. Same problem as everyone else. eBay key fob that would not program after trying various iterations of the process. Dealer was going to put it on computer to program it for $75. and if it worked was going to call Ford to try and resolve issue, but the tech come out and bingo, done. He said he's probably done a thousand of these and most of the time it's wait 5-6 sec with key on, swap key asap, always works for him. He did however do mine slightly different just because I had tried so much. He put key in and started truck, shut it right off and swapped key as fast as he could, repeat with 2nd and 3rd key. That's how mine worked. Now the battery in new fob is giving warnings Dealer was happy because they didn't have to call Ford and I was happy because it's working and I didn't have to pay $75, win win!!
ok I finally got into my dealer with my 3 keys (two original and one Amazon) Verified I had the right key fob (FCC ID numbers match.) Dealer tried the key 1/2/3 procedure did not work. Dealer tried using computer to program and came up with a request for user name and password that was new to him. Dealer will get back to ford and find out the story maybe more update next week. 2018 models appear to be different. So it would be interesting to see if any of you who got the procedure in the manual to work have 2018 or 2017 models. will advise if I find out more
I joined FTE just to share with everybody how I was finally able to get my third (spare) key fob to program! I have a 2017 with push button start and had tried the method described in the owners manual several times - never with any luck. Here is how I finally had success:
Close vehicle doors and remove slide out key from all fobs.
Place 1st working fob in console recess with buttons facing upward.
Press start button without foot on brake. (Vehicle ignition is on but not started.)
Wait 9 seconds (yes, I used a stopwatch) and hit the start button again, turning off the ignition.
Switch second working key fob to recess AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE and press the start button without foot on brake.
As before, wait 9 seconds and press the start button.
AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, place the unprogrammed key fob in the recess and press the start button. Within seconds, the vehicle should display a message on the dash stating success!
I hope this works for everybody as well as it did for me. Good luck!
