I'm having an issue with the intermittent wipers on my truck. The truck is a 1979 F-250 Ranger XLT with the 400M. I have looked around on the site and found several different threads on these wipers. They all have great info and helped me narrow it down to the governor box. I took apart the box and the large capacitor inside has come loose and broke off of one of its legs (leg got pulled out of the capacitor) and the other leg broke off at the circuit board. Does anyone know where to get a correct replacement capacitor from? Here are the numbers on the capacitor: N1051PN, 7821(6), 3L0-0009-21, 500UF 16V and its marked for 85 degrees Celsius. I would like to be able to fix it if i can instead of having to buy a NOS or used one. The part number on the governor box is D8TB-17C476-AA. Thanks for the help.
any electronics retailer...mouser, digikey, radio shack (if you still have one close by), ebay, amazon...i assume it has radial leads...the capacitance is the important part, as long as it is rated for 16v or more...
I had to replace a capacitor in the box on a truck I used to own because of the same reason you posted. I went to a Radio Shack and found one that was close to the same specs as the one that broke. 16vdc, 85*C, 470uf (could not find a 500uf). The capacitor that broke had a lead out each end, the one I replaced it with had both leads out the same end. Sweated the broken one off, spread the leads to reach the contacts, and sweated the new one back on. The 470uf compared to the 500uf didn't effect the intermittent function at all as far as I could tell. Was still working 10 years later when I sold the truck. The Radio Shack part # is 272-957. I think the capacitor cost $.98. It was a cheap, easy fix. I'm sure any electronic supply should have one if you can't find a Radio Shack around you.
Mark.

Thanks. Yea I love Radio Shack but they have closed all them in my state and turned them into Sprint stores. I'll search and see if they still have that part number. My only choice is to buy one online.

The ID engineering number on the governor box is: D8TB-17C476-AA
No parts for the governor were available by themselves.
