Dead on the Road
Started fine this morning and headed down the hill as usual. Hit the pavement and gave some throttle and felt a big vibration. Made the whole truck shake. Got off the throttle and it would stop. Made it down the hill (narrow winding 2 lane with no shoulders) wondering what the heck was going on. Got to the flats and couldn't go more than 40mph. No CEL that I noticed, but it was like she wasn't firing on all cylinders. Got to a place I could pull over and before I could stop, she died. Tried 4 or 5 times to start and nothing. Called roadside assistance and got the tow on the way. Called wife to come get me so I could get to work. Sent a text to my fleet guy to let him know truck was being towed to the shop and I would need a replacement ride if they can't fix it today. Not really mad, more disappointed, but stuff happens. Haven't been stranded on the side of the road since high school which was a long time ago. Stay tuned and I'll update as I know more. 11,214 miles on odo.

I'm going to take a guess that it's the throttle body. My wife's 2016 escape did the same thing, You could let it sit for a few minutes and it would start back up and run fine. Then, out of the blue, it would do it again. There was actually a recall on hers anyway. The dealer had to order a throttle body assembly and had it fixed the next day..

Ron - I did that figuring letting her set a few might bring a spark, No luck.
Dealer didn't get to it yesterday and I would have been surprised if they had. They sent me home in a 16' F150 they must of just taken in on a trade. Was hoping it was ecoboost but it's a 5.0L. Nice rig though and at least if they need my rig over the weekend, my fishing plans won't be ruined.

Doesn't sound good... Initial testing shows ZERO compression in one cylinder so it's no small problem. Won't know anymore until the middle of next week when they can really tare into it since they are booked until then. Bummer deal. Guess I drew the short straw this time. Poop happens.... <sigh>

That’s a bummer man. I can understand that you’re frustrated after that news. I was wanting it to be something g simple like a vapor canister purge valve or the like. I hope they figure it out soon but if not then at least you have a warranty to lean on in the mean time. Sending good vibes your way...

Looks like a valve spring and no apparent other damage. I was told there was some other work to do since there would have been excess fuel into the cylinder so they need to replace all the spark plugs as well. Not sure what else they'd do, maybe change oil? Hopefully I'll get it back early next week. They're not the speediest shop in the world that's for sure. I'll get more info when I finally get it back.

Finally got my truck back last night. Valve spring on #2 cylinder was broken. Fairly long list of parts including several new gaskets, studs, nuts, and bolts. Plugs were fouled so they replaced all 16 of those and changed the oil & filter. 14 days out of service. Some delay due to parts. That's a little long to be out of a rig but at least they didn't hesitate to get me something to drive right away. Glad I stayed local when I bought it. It's not worth going elsewhere for a few hundred bucks imo. Now I'm going to beat on this 6.2 like a jackhammer on concrete.
