Am I crazy??? There must be a way to search in ONLY "1987 - 1996 F150 & Larger F-Series Trucks"! I am tired of getting results that don't apply to my truck. Any help would be nice.
Are you using a PC to access the site or a mobile device? If using a PC simply select the Search This Forum on the upper right side of the thread list. Assumes you are in the forum you want to search. If not, use the Search function on the main page, then select Advanced. From there you can setup your keyword(s) and which forum(s) you want to search.
I never use the Search function when using a mobile device. Cannot help you there.
The best way if you can't parse a search query in the advanced search function is:
Use whatever search engine you like & include the specific "forum" from FTE.
In this case, the 87-96 forum is "/forum28"
There is a particular way to phrase the search query, but I'll need to drag it up out of a book mark if I can find it.
This comes around on a regular basis.

Go to google.com, and type in your keywords, then "site:" like so, to search on F150 brake rotors for example:
+F150 +brake +rotors site:www.ford-trucks.com/forums
It's 1000 times faster than searching using the FTE search as well, and uses google's cache so the load on FTE is reduced until you start clicking links, so this should help the FTE's server performance as well.
When this was first done, "www....ford-trucks dot com" did not turn into a hyper link & you need to add the /forum28 to make it look specifically "here".
In the advanced search I get a lot of use from the option to search titles only. I also use member's names in searches. You catch on to people's interests and strengths, use them. There are options to search for posts by a certain person or threads started by a certain person. You can combine that with key words to find posts or threads by a person on a topic.
Click on a member's name and it takes you to their page. From there you can click on statistics and see all of their posts or all of the threads they started. Sometimes you get lucky and find the end of a story this way. People are really bad about posting the solution to a problem in the thread that started the story.
I also use google advanced image search. It helps find threads with pictures. It also finds info from other sources. Great for wiring and vacuum diagrams.
You can find some great original Ford parts diagrams on sites that sell original Ford parts.
I used to get Sooooo frustrated when trying to use the search function. I would get several hundred hits and almost none of them were relevant. I start my search from Google and what I use now is the following: I want to search the forum for information about brakes, for example.
when using search function, the very first thing i do is click on advanced search. then i type what i am looking for in keyword, then click on search titles only. then on the right side of the box i click on the forums i want to search. this will cut out about 85% of the non essential return results.
That's alot of good advice.
Now I feel like a moron, I have used the advanced search and never noticed the option to search individual forums. That saves so much time.
There's alot of things they don't tell you about growing older, little things. Someone should make a list, little things like:
Your finger nails get thicker. lol.
OR
You realize that women hold no power over you, you'll still enjoy them but are much less suseptable to their manipulations.
OR
You will gain a great respect for those who came before you.
OR
Time alone has tremendous value. (ESPECIALLY OUTDOORS)
OR
Quality over quantity is something I should have paid more attention to.
OR..............
but on the brighter side of the equation:
you get to meet new people every day.
you can hide your own ester eggs.
you can wrap your own christmas presents AND be surprised when you open them.
