Leaf Spring Restoration time
Now, as I move forward on my restoration...I began the springs today. I disassembled one set, blasted, and removed bushings. I did not find any striping paint from assembly, but I found an initial, one letter, on each set, white paint. As I asked about my driveshaft, I'll ask about the springs. Anyone with paint stripe color/location?
Now, I plan on bluing the springs to replicate the phosphate process. Any types seem to be more accurate? I'll be cold bluing. Is shackle also Phosphate (blued)? I also read a post which stated they were then sprayed black over springs. I assume that this was after the set was together and not as single springs. Was this done after installing to axle, etc. or done at assembly after spring set was put together? Or was it always done in our years? Any black paint I may have found may have been done by previous owner, but I really didn't find any, but the springs when taken apart definitely had a shiny (blued) look and not phosphate gray.
The spring did not have the clips holding springs together. NumbersDummy is welcome to give a pn which is long obsolete...but auction sites sometimes have the obsolete. Or, who sources the correct ones for 1971 F100.
The spring sets did have a white plastic(?) rectangle buffer. Only one between bottom and second from bottom spring. And, one of the black plastic(?) buffers which went on outside of springs, in the impression was still present. So, I am looking for a source or pn for those anti squeak buffers. The black one is circular and looks just like some for 1950s60s large cars. But I do not know if they are the same diameter. If my description is not enough I can take pictures of these in morning and post.
Before I took this direction, I did order a set from E, in Detroit. Besides not looking anything close to original equipment and a crappy customer service ethic, they seem like nice springs so shoot me a pm if interested in a new set of springs.
Thanks again
