Asking for a potential buyer. Will a bed from a 1996 F350 fit on a 2001 F250? They want to convert their '01 to a dually with my bed and rear but I don't know if they're compatible or not.
I'm not sure about the running gear, but the bed is definitely different. The F series trucks went through an extensive revamp during the 98 model year and the "Super Duty" as we know it was born in 99. The early superduties may have shared some of the drivetrain components since they did have the 7.3l diesel just like the old body style ones (circa 1992-1997), but I can almost guarantee you that the frames were different and I know for a fact that the cab and bed were different.
It could probably be made to fit, but would look like a hack job. I think you buyer needs to pass on this deal and find a donor truck of the same generation.
1999 to 2016 the beds will interchange although you have to change the wire harness for the bed on 2010 models if used for prior years.
Like the above poster said you need the same body style to work correctly.
I used a new 2014 takeoff bed on my 2007 truck.
