What is this broken line/hose?

I started my E-350 with 5.4L yesterday and noticed a lot of watery liquid flowing out. I removed the cover today and noticed this broken line .Can you help me identify it and is this something I can get at local parts store and if so what do I ask for? Thanks much!

Broken plastic connection.

Plastic connector is broken .

Looks like the hot water source/return from the rear heater. The exact part may be found at Rock Auto (if you have a few days to wait) or from your Ford dealer ($$) I don't remember if the plastic section is part of a quick disconnect or a transformational part for the rubber to metallic section.

Dorman makes replacement connectors for those fittings, look for their line of "heater hose connectors" that have the quick disconnect feature: Dorman QD Fittings. Often times those you need are available through AutoZone et al.

BTW that hose arrangement for the E-Series rear heater isn't optimal--it could be reconfigured for better mechanical properties, mostly to eliminate that severe bend in the hoses/tubes.

Here's a page from the Ford service manual showing a quick disconnect and how to work with it. A special tool is needed to separate the joint, All the chain stores sell one.

That's true for the most part however those not yet accustomed to working with those fittings don't yet realize the white locking tabs only need to be compressed with all the removal work being done to the black hose-end fitting. The tool shown in the attached PDF file do work but they're somewhat rare at the chain stores, we tend to see this type most often:
Cal-Van QD Tool Cal-Van QD Tool
. IMHO these type tools tend to not have clear instructions how they work so its easy to think the tool will allow the fitting and the locking portion to be removed easily.

The tool shown in the attached PDF file work fine but I've not seen them available in stock at the chain stores, have found a few Rotunda brand through eBay etc. In a pinch I've used a pair of pliers to compress the locking tabs inside that window allowing the the hose-end connector removal with relative ease.

These fittings tend to be long lived but its wise to consider replacing the white portion with locking tabs and O-rings if they've much older than 10-12 years.
