'95 7.3 starting problem

Ok all you 7.3L gear heads... I got a 95 F-350 that's been acting up, it either don't start or starts and will idle all day up until you try to drive it or give it fuel then it gets rough and studders or stalls and when it does that I noticed a little black smoke. Only have 168,xxx miles on it

I'm thinking a bad ICP or IPR but the ICP I think it is, don't show oil in the electric plug like it's bad and I'm out of ideas... Y'all got any?

I would start by taking a look at the wiring plugs to the valve covers, 2 to each valve cover gasket, for signs of overheating/melting. If the glow plugs are failing, they can draw to much amperage causing the pins to over heat, thus melting the connectors. If the melting gets bad enough, it will melt into the injector pin/connector causing a short to that injector. I have had this cause the truck to run fine one day, and crappy the next.

well.... it could be a lot of things...

Do you have access to a way to monitor what the engine is doing? Do you have a CEL? What mods do you have on the truck?

I have a video of what it's doing but it won't let me upload from the phone, as far as mods it had a diablo power chip but it went South a few years ago and I too it out.

I have the torque app on my phone to measure the HPOP pressure and such

need to know fuel pressure
then when running, what is IPR % duty

there is a PID for throttle IIRC and that can tell you if foot pedal is ok

How is it reading fuel pressure? 107 is not right. You should have a minimum of 20 when cranking for it to run. Closer to 40 would be better. Once it does start you need a fuel pressure measurement at idle as well

Crank sensor codes can set due too excessive long crank times. Make sure your batteries are charged up!! Need to see the 3 APP voltages. A week battery or slow cranking can screw up the IDM and PCM making ya chase your tail!!!
