What parts of a leather seat are actually leather?
Im wondering what parts need leather conditioner and what parts would be a waste of time to apply it to.
Steve
Speaking in general, and not Ford specific information...
Often it is just the "seating surfaces" (so not the skirts, sides, or backside) of the seat that are really leather. But generally the same leather conditioner works for all, and keeps the entire interior looking uniform. IOW, it really does not matter.
I don't think any of it is pure leather. It's all pulverized and shredded leather bits mixed with bonding agents and other crap. I'm not convinced leather treatments actually do anything for the material other than make it look pretty. The "leather" doesn't soak up the conditioner and rejuvenate. All trims have varying degrees of quality and thickness which give the appearance of more luxury. I don't think real leather has been used in a long time, maybe on the very early King Ranch? Mercedes has a similar product called "MB-Tex". It looks and feels similar to leather but it is easier to maintain and lasts longer. Real leather is also stupid expensive.
Of course, I could be wrong. But I'd like proof this material is directly off the side of a cow.
