Crawled underneath my truck yesterday. I noticed some cracks on the transfer case. Is this normal? should I be concerned? Also does anyone know that part number for this seal. I need to replace it.
Other than your seal in the last photo, those are very common in most aluminum castings. I am not sure of the alloy they cast with and I do not see oil leaking from them. You can always check them to see if they are cracks. If you want to do that let me know and I will tell you the correct way to do that.
Those are heat checks (cracks) in the mold that was used to make the casting. They are very common in die cast and permanent mold castings and do not weaken the casting at all.
