My alarm went off last night on my 17 F250 Platinum, thought some kids were goofing around so I went outside, shut it off.. hung out for about 5 minutes when it went off again. Nobody was around it, nothing hit it, it went off as if it just did it for no reason. So I unlocked it, got inside & locked the doors.. sat there for a minute, I saw some light blinking on my scantool obdlink wifi doohickey that plugs into the obd.. so I unplugged it. Hasn't gone off in roughly 12 hours. Anyone hear about people trying to "hack" their vehicles with these? This is the only thing i can think of right now. We live on a navy base and frequently get new neighbors, I was thinking someone was curious and tried connecting their computer to the wifi signal this puts out & something funny set off my alarm. All intelligent thoughts are appreciated!
I used to hack BMW's all the time. Doesn't count, I had the tech software. You live on a naval base. One time someone pointed the radar in the wrong direction on accident and messed up all kinds of good stuff. I'd unplug any kind of wifi device from my truck if I was near that.
Thinking about it though. If someone is plugging and unplugging stuff from the OBD port, while the trucks alarm is on, shouldn't it alarm??? Could be a simple as the wifi thing starting itself up for whatever.
Two things come to mind. One is yes, the OBDII adapter making the truck go crazy. I've seen these cause all types of faults.
Second is a door sensor.. although mine is a 15, I had a door sensor fail and took forever to figure it out. My alarm would go off at random times because the sensor triggered the truck as if the door was open. The worst was at 3am at the campground.. Horn honking over and over surrounded my hundreds of campsites.. talk about embarrassing.
It took several months to figure it out until one particular day I started the truck, drove off and as I'm cruising down the road, the Door Ajar message popped up for my left rear door. Finally!!! had it replaced under warranty. About a month later, the rear left started doing the same thing. Fortunately the dealer took my pictures as proof and replaced that one as well. Been fine ever since.
I'm leaning towards your OBDII but the door sensor could be your 2nd issue. It was so quick you'd hear the dash ding but as soon as you looked down, the message was gone. That's why it took so damn long to figure it out lol.
