Idle Question
A/C, and manual trans. Once every couple weeks I have a
problem with a fast idle(usually around 3000 rpm but it does
differ sometimes). The only way I can get it to go down is to
almost let it stall while stopping with it in gear. The other
situation is that when it is not having the first problem it idles
down to about 500 rpm or lower for a few minutes after start-
up when the engine is already warm.
Depending on the mileage, the IAC can become clogged with carbon, oil deposits, etc. I am not familiar with the 3.0 intake system, however, the IAC should be located on the throttle body, usually mounted with 2 or 3 bolts and it will have a connector (computer wiring harness) plugged into it. You can remove this and clean it out using carburator cleaner (spray). It will have a mounting gasket which will need to be replaced when removed. Also, clean out the holes, two of them where the IAC bolts on. These can be tested for proper operation however, I am not sure of the proceedure for this truck... Maybe this will help
