About 36k miles and 3 years ago, my 4R70W decided that reverse was the only gear it wanted to use. It had been acting up for about a while so I new it would eventually give up. I had the unit rebuilt then and over the past couple of months the transmission jerks randomly while going down the road usually around 45, 55 & 65 mph. It is more noticeable in high gear and overdrive.
Does the transmission need replacing or is it another issue?

Note the following;
Does it still do the same out of OD or down shifted with increased engine RPM?
If no, you have a faulty coil on one cylinder.
If yes, it's something else.
To find out, use a Scanner to look at mode 6, test 53.
There you will see the misfire counts for each cylinder.
If one cylinder is high, it's coil is suspect.
You will not see a code generated for this kind of fault so you need this way to detect which cylinder is the cause.
Otherwise use a Scanner set up to trap and freeze the data for the cause area.
Good luck.
