I made a post earlier about my wife’s truck and now it’s time for mine lol! I am doing a complete rebuild and uprgrades to my 97 F150 4.6 I am gonna try to get around 750 horses out of it I am also gonna keep the same block just replace rotating assembly and add a lil s/c or turbo! Any ideas?....... ok let’s do it lol!!!
At around 700 hp, the truck won't be very street-able.
You will need the Romeo block with crank main bearing side bolts to even think of holding that much power.
All told you will have well over $10k in the motor plus you need a transmission that will handle the power.
After all this a 9.75 rear with 12" slicks to get any bite plus all the little things like larger fuel pump, dyno tune etc..
Sure you want to go that far?
Get hold of an M.I.R.E. book about $30 on these motors and look it over good.
Good luck.
Well bluegrass, what is the most u think I will get out of that block because I want the most out of it that I can get!
Pits not that I want to go as far as 700 hp it’s that this truck holds great sentimental value and I want it to be the best it can be! What can I do to get it there?
o700- 750 hp is in the range of max for these blocks.
If you go to max power and something goes wrong, there is no tolerance left.
Example is supercharging that has to much ignition timing and ignition detonates. Head gaskets blow, rods break, blocks split etc.
If you have never been exposed to these kinds of power levels before, you need to be reasonable in thinking.
Your better deal is a Ford Motorsports crate engine, do the install around it and have some sense of a good outcome.
Most of these all Alum. engines are in the 480 to 500 hp range and still cost $11000 up as high as $22000 for different power levels the later motors..
The old 4.6/5.4 designs from 97 to 08 are not even shown in the catalog any longer..
Offerings are likely available from other builders of 4.6/5.4 engines..
Do your home work and find out the perspective of what you think you want..
Good luck.
Bluegrass has all the answers........... you just need to determine how much $$$$$$$$$ you want to invest. Simple turbo and tuner will cost plenty.. maybe call it there.
Cool lol I guess a feller can only dream when he can’t afford 20k huh? So I guess we are just gonna upgrade pistons and cam and rings and so on and then add turbo and tuner and get the most out of that?
