If upgrading to X code springs to replace old saggy original springs will I need a taller shock or can I buy stock size shocks? Ive got a 2000 Ex V-10, front springs are upside down and shocks are leaking so I want to jump on this project. Also there is about 3/4 of an inch between the spring and the bump stock to I get to feel that all the time. Thanks guys.
Tons of info covering this very topic in the tech folder.
Also, when you have a question about YOUR rig, it's bad manners to hijack another persons thread and ask about your truck. It's almost always better to start your own thread so the responses are for your truck.
That's the company line/Walter Walmart greeting.
Now, to answer your question, yeah, ya need a longer shock. Others who have done the X codes will chime in and let ya know what they used and what they like.
I used a Bilstein shock for the F250 when I swapped in my V codes over a decade ago.
I am using OEM X codes with an additional leaf added that gives my Ex 3 7/8" lift over stock, so went with a set of Rancho RS9000XL shocks designed for an EX with a 4" suspension lift.
Calling Junior at ATS (a site sponsor) will get you in touch with a really good spring guy who can get you all set with everything you will need (springs, shocks, hardware....) for you job at decent prices. Otherwise, since the X codes were an option on the Super Duty trucks with the snow plow prep package you could use a shock listed for that application.
