I joined the dark side 78 Chevy full size truck ( 7'' lift 33s ) it was a deal i couldn't pass up.
I just couldn't find that 70s f-150 or 250 for the right price
The first car i worked on was a 78 F-150 when i was 4 years old and they still have ( and i'm 18 now), they didn't want to sell it cause they still need it for plowing
but i want to say thanks for all the info i got from you guys when i found a ford trucks that had my eye on it.
that tough little SOB ranger of mine has to go (to make room for more chevy ****)
LOL i broke the ford trend with my chevelle now i'm going to break the ford truck trend with this beast (everyone in my family drives ford, aunts uncles parents grandparent and it keeps going lol).
I know i going to hear it from you guys but i don't mine, theres people in my family that work for ford and i'm going to hear it from them every time i see them lol.
If you couln't find a decent ford you didn't look very hard. Or did you just mean one that was already highschool kidded out with a lift and big tires. Every time you open that cheesy chevy door as it scrapes the striker and drops out of its hole, just remember Fords never do that. And when you forget to oil the hood hinges and the hood starts folding in two remember Fords never do that. And when you het up there and hang by your heels to do anything to the distributor, well I could go on but you get my point. Since you are only 18 you need room to make mistakes. Now we just hope that you learn from them. We will still take you back, just try to keep from talking about it here or we may have to come over and have an intervention, lol.
well the fords i found in my price range were POS lifted and not lifted.
1 ford i looked was 1500$ and it was rusted everything!
another was 1800 and needed a motor!
another was 1000 with a 12inch lift and needed prob 2000$ worth of parts and also needed new tires.
i paid 1400$ total for my truck and hes putting in my tranny and a new rear end in it now, the tranny was bad and so was the rear end.
this thing has a new paint job and that frame is in great shape and no rust at all! even floor boards! the ford that i seen that were in the same shape like this was over 3000$ !!!!!!!
i found 1 for 2500$ that i was going to buy but the thing needed new lifters and who know what else it needed.
later,
question were you guys always find them?
i live in wisconsin and in the paper and even traveling there wasn't much worth looking at. at the big car show there wasn't really nothing there either (must like them so much they don't want to sell them in these parts)

I watch ebay and have seen several decent looking highboys sell up in your area for $2500 ot under. Doesn't the fact that the tranny and rear end were trashed tell you something about the way this truck has been used? Why didn't the guy fix it before he tried to sell it? Did you check the frame in the area of the steering box? Any time at all on big tires cause the frame/ crossmember to fail here. Another reason not to buy a chevy is there isn't a great place like FTE to go for support.
There are advantages to owning a chevy p/u but not enough to sway me back. I did have a 78 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 once and an 85 1/2 4x4 diesel suburban which just about cured me of ever bringing another chev p/u of that vintage home again.

i don't give a **** what you say about it, you didn't see it you didn't hear it run and you didn't drive it! you havent seen the crap i have looked at for more! if this truck was listed in the paper this thing would of been gone in a day.
Well son, most of us have been there and done that. If you were only looking in your local paper you were kindof limiting yourself it would seem, but just don't come to a bunch of Ford lovers crowing about your chevy and expect us to pat you on the back for buying it even if it was the best deal around at the time.
Sounds like you got a good deal, however my dad thought he got a good deal when he bought his 79 bowtie 1/2ton 4x4 w/400. It needed, slip yokes, a transmission, the carb was so far gone you could drive 20 miles at 60 and use half a tank of gas, oh and it smoked about 1500 rpms. This was his $900 gem. He realised his mistake and traded it even up for an 88 club wagon 7pass. Put about 50 bucks into and got the oil pressure back and has been going strong since.
The sagging door problem is about a $10 fix--new hinge bushings are available at the dealer. My friend has a 1979 K-20, & it's a nice truck--was a 305 (departed explosively at ~160,000 miles), now a ZZZ crate 350, TH400 auto, & a part-time converted NP203.
A 1978 is nice-the last year for no cats on a 1/2 ton.
