Hello. I've had mixed responses on this on Facebook groups and most of the forums on this topic are pretty old. I have an SCT X4 tuner I pulled off of my 6.0 when I sold it. I now have a 2002 F-150 with a 5.4. Should I use the tuner on the 5.4 for performance or economy? Will it make a difference or will it damage my motor?

IIRC the SCT comes with canned tunes for several Ford vehicles, check if your SCT has some for your truck, if not you can probably download tunes from 5 Star call them and verify if you can. Good luck..

 

Hello, I have the same tuner on my 97 f150, 5.4. It has been about 2 months since installed, and so far...., I love it.!!! I have 3 programs,....economy.....performance....towing. All 3 programs work very well, changing shift points, and improving engine performance. Along with the tuner, I also installed upgrades to the ignition ,...coil packs and plugs,and wires,....and a K&N intake, along with new Megaflow dual exhaust. All of this to help the overall effect of the tuner. The engine is the original early 5.4. with the metal intake manifold. It has 170k miles, but has always been maintained. . I suppose I have canned programs, but I don't believe the programs are to aggressive for this engine, and shouldn't harm it. I have added many other upgrades to this truck, but they aren't directly affected by the tuner. I was using the performance program and it does make a difference ! However, my mpg was suffering, so I just switched to the economy one. You can tell it's not the same, and I think it's more like the factory stock setup. I hope the mpg's will improve !!! I haven't used the towing mode yet, but I'm planning a camping trip soon, so I'll find out how good the towing mode works pulling the camper.! I still have a lot of things to do to this truck, but money is tight. Anyway, the SCT X4 is a great addition and I'm glad to have it. Good luck with yours. !!!
