Hmmm.... I had to use the fireplace last week in Austin.... 43 degrees here on Saturday.
We are usually starting to crank 95 degrees.....
We had a windstorm/tornado through here Saturday with the storm. I've been helping lot's of Millennial neighbors with little electric chainsaws as they discover their carbon neutral saws aren't up to the task hmmm.....
Can't really complain here in mid. GA, but I believe our spring happened back in February!, so far the cold hasn't had a bad effect on all the spring color that came out back in February thankfully. I'm looking forward to warmer temps even though we are probably going to go from cooler to hotter temps when it finally decides to stay warm. Thats seems to be the way it mostly goes here in the south.
We typically don't get so much snow in this part of Wisconsin--maybe 60 inches or so all season. This April, the snow fall has been extraordinary. There is another storm today with 6 inches falling in some places. Not where I live, however. It's passing to the south.
The picture I posted reminds me of growing up in the Soo in the 1950's. The Coast Guard station where my Dad served had something they called a motor toboggan. It was used for working in the woods in the deep snow. The Coast Guard had their own communication lines between the lighthouses along the Lake Superior shore and their base at Sault Ste. Marie. When 150 plus inches of snow falls in a season, the snow gets deep in the woods and crews had to go out to repair downed lines.
Hey Jim,
In looking back at your snow picture... what is that scary little critter to the right as you come up the steps?
I've heard if the snow stays on your roof evenly ....you have great insulation. I'd say you are good...
It's supposed to be a snowman--a left over Christmas decoration. There seemed to be no real reason to take it down just yet--maybe in a week or two. The temps are in the 40's today, but the overnight low was 21.
I was in your fair city a few weeks ago--on my first trip to Texas. Your capital building is very impressive and your weather--very pleasant.

mr. ed. i am very lucky. my brother in law is my mechanic. i also store my truck in a building we built at his house. we had scrap tin for roof and side walls, scrap trusses, i just bought 2x4s for walls. i help him with his projects probably 4 out of 5 saturdays, all year. we do outside projects and family projects. i i always do what i can on my truck and help him when he works on it. when he first did some work for me, he wouldn't take any money, so i decided this is how i would pay him back. we started this in 2006 when i first took my truck out of 22 year storage.
