New to me NPI 4.6

Hi guys, I have a 02 screw 4x4 that I am replacing the engine in. I was given a 96 Windsor NPI, going swap the heads to pi from the old motor which is also a Windsor motor. My main question is the knock sensor on the 96 is a pipe type fitting, integral with the sensor. The one on the 02 motor has a threaded bolt hole and is bolted to the block. What is my best option for making this work? Reduce the pipe threaded hole to accept the bolt and use original sensor or wire in the connector from the truck to the 96 sensor and run it that way? Thanks for the help

Just use your original knock sensor. Just FYI remember that your compression is going to be bumped up some so make sure you also get a tune for it.

Hoping to get away without one ( some have ), but is on the list just because. So your saying reduce to the bolt size and use the trucks sensor?

Absolutely 100 percent do not delete the knock sensor. I just got done rebuilding a 4.6 that had the knock sensor unplugged, and it had cracked the top ring land on 6 of the 8 pistons. Use an adapter, or even jb weld the sensors bolt into the hole. The last time i did a pi set of heads on an npi motor, i had to use the knock sensor from a 96 f150. The threads were the right size and the connector was correct. The older trucks use a round connector and the newer ones use a more square connector. The 96 sensor might not look like it will fit under the manifold, but trust me, it will. Just be sure you use a knock sensor. The npi motors with pi heads run like lil monsters, just make sure to run 89 or 91 octane if you dont get a tune, but i recommend tuning it to take advantage of the added compression.

Running without the knock sensor was never an option. Was able to work on it some over the weekend and found I will have to use the 02’s sensor as the ohm’s readings between the two are vastly different. Looks like a helicoil for the proper thread patterns will fix it right up
