I have 1988 f-150 300 4.9 Truck I am rebuilding I want to eliminate the smog pump, what the best way to do so? Shorter belt or bracket? Where can I fine either??
Shorter belt you can find any parts house, remove the pump wrap 3/8 ths rope around everything and measure at the middle of the adjustment slot. Belts are measured in MM and the diam. 7 is thinner than a 9.
well, your asking a question about a 1988 truck on a 2003 truck site. Probably not the best place to get a belt size... Still the BEST option is to take an old belt or rope and cut it and fit around the pulleys, then measure it and buy a new belt.
i have a 1989 truck i took the serpentine pulleys off of to convert the 1966 F100 motor from V-belts to serpentine belts. i got everything done. i need a pully to replace the smog pump. Anyone know where to get this part?
your going to have to go to Auto Zone or other and just ask to see a variety of pulleys and see what you can make fit .... or go to the local scrap / truck yard and just do some inspections.... There is nowhere to "look it up" on what your doing.
I assume you are DELEATING the smog pump and just want to put an IDLER in its position ? Why not go to Auto Store and ask for a generic IDLER PULLEY/ Bearing for a truck.... your going to have to build a bracket to mount it.
Or how about ripping all the guts out of the smog pump, just running the shaft and bearings in an empty case... then mounting a new pulley onto the shaft ? Still may need a little machining on pulley... but it would not need a bearing.
