Picking up used 460 that came out of 74 RV to replace existing 460 son blew up. Motor is good and was running when pulled and garage kept after that. I plan to replace headgaskets before dropping it back in. But I was also considering putting aluminum intake on as well. So, when putting on aluminum intake is there anything special to do or just swap it out it old iron intake? Also, for carb mount do I have to use a certain size spacer/gasket?
lastly, is it possible to change cam out to something that will make the truck sound better without changing anything else?
For example this cam which I have heard in another truck would I need to change anything else?
When installing an intake, you just want to be sure that your gaskets are ion the right place and don't move when you set the new intake into place.
If changing the cam, you'll want whatever valve springs the cam manufacturer recommends.
1) To help with the intake install I replace some of the intake bolts with studs. They'll hold the gaskets on and help align the intake manifold.
2) If you're replacing the cam I would get a new intake like you said. I would recommend the Weiand 8012 for a daily driven vehicle.
3) I'm not a cam expert but I just looked on Comp Cams website and every cam they had listed for the 460 had some kind of installation note that says you can't run stock components with it. Whether it be retainers, springs, guide plates, etc. Every cam said it needed aftermarket parts. Not saying it wouldn't work with stock components. But how much do you wanna risk it?

What intake manifold bolt kit to use with Weiand 8012, when researching the bolt kits on summit seems everyone says bolts are not correct length??????
