09-16-03, 8:00pm purchased a 01 f150 crew lariat w/120k miles. At 8:28pm it died & would not start for about 20 minutes. Bought from dealer but contacted the previous owner who said simular problem was an oil filter screen getting clogged causing the engine to heatup and shut down.
Dealer found no problems today (17th) but don't yet know what the prev owner said. Anyone know about this? I'm in the dark.
I know that they will drop every other cylinder if they get so hot so that the ones that aren't firing act like a air pump to help cool the engine. It should have done this before it shut down. I don't know if it will shut down from low oil pressure or not.

oil filter screen (do you mean oil pick up tube?)won't overheat the engine, but it will lock the engine up. something has to be wrong with youe cooling system or electrical problem.
1st, yes the oil pick up tube(screen) as descibed to me. The dealer said the oil pan had metal shavings in it which were sucked up by the oil pu tube which clogged the screen and ended up shutting the engine down. Unknown if from oveheating or what.
Dealer took possession of the '01 and I bought an '02 supercrew lariat fx40 with only 8k miles on it. Love that truck.
