New to me 1990 club wagon 5.8L with 34k orginal miles .
The tube that goes from the EGR just behind the alternator to the front of the right side exhaust manifold rusted and the manifold was pugged to fix the exhaust leak, Would leaving the existing EGR system in place but not being connected to the exhaust manifold cause any issues ?
Yes, every time the valve opens you have an uncontrolled air leak which will mess with fuel mixtures. To minimize problems sandwich a piece of sheet metal between the valve and intake to seal it off but keep the vacuum and sensor connected to keep the computer happy.

Just had a guy tell me that if I block off that port for the EGR valve, it would eventually cause the intake to be plugged and create a rough idle condition. any idea if there is true ? or is he talking if I block the port at the intake and remove the valve entirely ?
