I have a 1994 pickup. When I bought it I stuck a tape in the cassete player. Now it won't eject the cassete. The radio works. This is an all electric cassete player. The cassete won't even play, just the radio. None of the electronic buttons for the cassete work. Does anyone have any ideas of how to get the tape out without destroying the cassete player?
The best way is to remove the player and open it up on a shop bench and then work on the mechanism to remove the cassette.
Alternatively, you could use some large forceps or narrow needle nose pliers to grab the tape and pull it out. You may need to push the carrier mechanism upwards a bit to get it to come loose. This will work once or twice but eventually you will strip a little gear in the mechanism and then the tape drive will run all the time even without a tape. Most shops charge a flat rate to repair, about $90 for the Ford stock radio.
You can buy factory players on EBAY for about $15, just be sure to get the stock radio, not premium or JBL since both of those require an amp and the stock truck does not have the cabling and the radio doesn't have the plugs to work with the premium sound system components. The factory stock radio has 2 big flat connectors on the back. The premium one has one big flat connector and 2 or 3 small square connectors. They do not match and there are no aftermarket adapters that I have been able to find. Aks about the connectors before you buy.
