Stereo guys please help

I bought a JVC cd deck and I have took out the stock cassete player and wiring up the new deck but I test the 12 volt ignition wire and it works when on AC and shuts of with no power like it's suppose to but the battery wire that always has power doesn't make the light turn on. I'm sure I have the right wire because I looked at wiring diargram but dont understand because before I started my stock cassete player was working so their was juice running to it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im going nuts

I think the easier method would have been to buy one of those wiring kits that connect to your stock plugs on the truck. I did that on my 97 and saved me alot of headache, plus it only cost me ten bucks. Might be an idea for you!

I ordered my panasonic deck from crutchfield and they game me a wiring harness for free. It was a breeze, I have now installed 2 stereos using wiring harnesses I can do it in 15 minutes now.

You should be a able to pick up a wiring harness in Wally World for not much $$$

If everything was working well prior to you disection, odds are there is nothing wrong, just lost some wires in translation. I love those harness adapters that are available everywhere. They did all the hard work and you do not need to cut anything. Give up a couple bucks and just plug em in!

lol its funny because I did pick up a wiring harness from Canadian Tire and the packaging said for 1998-03 ford f-150. Got home pulled everything apart and noticed that it wasn't the same plug. The damn thing meant to say for 1998 and above but not including 1998. Everything was a mess so I didn't feel like going back and getting the proper wiring harness. I put everything back together and taped the wires so first thing in the morning im gonna go get the right harness. Ill let everyone know how it goes.

Future shop wanted $55 to install the deck not including the dash kit and wiring harness, like mentioned it should only take max 30 minutes with the wiring harness. That sure seems like their making a mighty large profit for such quick work.

The pros can do this job in 5 minutes. I've watched them strip back the wires, splice them and have everything all done nice and neat in a snap.

buy a wiring harness, and repair your butchured wiring... you should beable to get the truck side of the harness from a junkyard if you tossed yours out

Hacking the vehicle to make the equipment work is a major source of headaches for anybody who has the misfortion of comming across it at a later date.

Fix it, then go do it right. Dont give the guys at the counter hell for mislabled product either, it's NOT their falt. Ask to talk to a manager, and inform them of the problem, and you'll usually correct the problem (and mabey even get the right item for a discount, or free)

what headunit did u buy, and how does it look?

update: I dont know what is wrong but I bought the proper wiring harness connected everything like labeled. It's still not working so I checked the fuses, and there is none blown so I decided to bring it in to a audio shop this afternoon because I'm getting frustrated going over everything a million times and nothing is working. Still seems to have no power going through the wires but what is weird it working before I took out the stock cassete player

Check out www.installdr.com for a wiring diagram for your truck, so you can hook it up correctly.

It is possible that when you hooked it up the first time and went to try it you may have shorted out something inside the deck maybe fried it. It happened to me once.
