My axle wont engage i need 4x4 while it's slippery would it cause problems to just zip tie the diff engaged? I used to run 24/7 with my hubs locked and never had problems. Im supposed to have automatic 4x4 but the rear diff speed sensor is bad so its basically 2wd
In 99 there was no 2WD option on the 4WD selector switch, the front axle is constantly engaged. Like pdqford said, with a bad rear sensor the A4WD system won't work.
The transfer case still goes into 4hi and 4lo i can hear it shift and i can tell driving its in 4lo just the front diff not ingaged
As Alloro pointed out, if you don’t DON’T have a 2WD position on your selector switch, the front axle is engaged all the time.
But if you do have a 2WD position on your selector switch, you may just have a vacuum leak that is preventing the front axle actuator from engaging the front axle.
Found the problem the driver side front axle flange (cv shaft goes from hub n bolts to round flange thats approximay 1 inch from diff) the short axle that comes out of the differential doesn't stay in place in the differential. Ut basically just falls right out the side, the only thing keeping it from falling all the way out is cv shaft doesnt compress far enough to let it come out all the way. I can put it right back into place, it engages the splines or what evers inside the diff but nothing is keeping it from sliding back out. I slide it into place, and switched it to 4x4 and 4wd was engaged, now i just have to figure out how to keep axle in the diff. If this was a rear end id be 100% sure a c clip came off the axle.
