Have you personally looked at the truck? The pictures aren't great but the pass side looks like it's been hit and repaired poorly. Door and half the bed are different color. I don't think the 4.6 will be much better than the 6cyl, you'd bebetter off with the 5.4 for towing and plowing. What's the budget? Might be worth looking at older trucks like 90s OBS. I've seen 351/auto f250s going for around 2-3000 in decent condition. If you're willing to put in some work, might be able to get a 99+ with a blown motor cheap. Look at private party sales, you won't get much, if any, of a warranty on this old of a truck so no point in paying the dealer premium.
Changed my post first truck sold before I got there today. Ok so I found a 2004 f350 regular cab 4x4 with 5.4 auto trans and 4.10 gears. It was a road call tire change vehicle for a semi truck repair shop, it has a stall flat bed with steel top mount bins. Guy is asking 1700 obo, problem is he says the trans slips going over 55mph and inclines. Second problem it's missing the hubs out of the front axle, said one stuck in 4wd lock and it burnt up so they pulled it out and never installed new ones.
-so it might need a rebuilt trans OR a flush what you think?
-second its gonna need lock hubs, most likely unit bearings and possibly stub shafts because they have been exposed to the elements for a year
if nothing else is wrong with it, Here are the risks; Assume the trans is burnt and you’ll need to drop $3k to replace it. I would also assume $1k in the front end. Hubs are cheap (the G2’s are great and only about $150/pair). Assume once in there you’re in for brakes, bearings, and seals too. I wouldn’t worry about the 1/2 shaft, they usually clean up well with just a wire wheel.
F350 was sold last night, I guess I have to stop my life and run as soon as I see one pop up because calling and telling the seller I'll be there at this time isn't working for me

Unfortunately this is true. If it's a good truck they don't last long. First one there with the cash gets it. You can't really blame the seller, lots of people say they're coming and never show up. Good luck.
