Thanks for the help. My shifter arm is completely loose and the shifter at the bottom was froze, so I thought that I needed a new column tube. Maybe I just need the shifter part (part #7228 on diagram). I'll find out when I get it apart.

Note: 1965/72 F100/350 shift collar had the pointer made as part of it. 1973/77 shift collar has a slot in it that the plastic pointer fits into.
The shift collar is pot metal, has an internal bridge that connects it to the shift tube. Over time, the bridge begins to crack, eventually breaks off.
Now you aren't going anywhere because...when the bridge breaks, the shift lever flops around.

the inner shift tube had the little tab came undone and the 7228 part was broke. welded the tab on and have to order the new part. having problems adding a picture.
