Today, 42 miles round trip, I used 4 gallons of oil. I used more oil than diesel! At least I picked up the cheap stuff from the PX to get me home.
When I got home I set about diagnosing again. I got up on my topside creeper with the engine running and looked everywhere. I didn’t see a damn thing except my valley full of oil. I got out my inspection mirror and poked around some more.
I don't exactly know what this is, but it is under the fuel bowl, toward the cab end of the motor. Anyway I saw some oil on it. On looking closer with my mirror and flashlight I saw a full stream of oil coming out of it. I’m not sure on the orientation of this picture. I stuck my phone down between all the hoses and wiring to take the picture.
That round cover with the snap-ring should not have pressurized oil on it and rarely leaks. Is it coming from the non-servicable plug on the bottom side of the pump. If so, there is a kit for that.
Thought the non serviceable plug was leaking on mine but ended up being the plug that sits around 11 o clock ish..eith way stud, gotta remove hpop to inspect ALL OF IT. Fuel bowl remove, spider, hpop lines...makes it easier to have valley as open as you can get
If you have it out you might want to consider doing the whole pump. You can get a re-seal kit from dieselorings.com as well as a rear plate gasket. There is also a kit for the non-serviceable plug that HD Rider mentioned. It has a new plug with more threads on it but has to be done with the pump out so you don't lose any of the innards of that fitting.
