Hello,
I drained my E4OD and it's convertor, when I was emptying the tray I found quite an amount of small aluminium filings/flakes at the bottom, would that be normal?
My truck a 1989 F-350 has only 10.000 miles.
Black clutch material surrounding the magnet is normal.Bright, glittery aluminum isn't a good sign.
'89 was the worst year of the E4OD with very high failure rates.
well, I didn't pull the tray yet, I drained the converter. and I didn't see much black stuff, most is aluminium.
1989 the early series, is "sort of" still development from the factory, the first series out in the public, then with all the different usages that the public has, the factory sees what cases come back for garantee, and according to that they go and modify/reenforce certain parts. logic.
but in that vision I find it's a pity that I don't have the latest version (all beefed up from factory)...
When you drop the pan ,post a pic. Every one that I've opened up had a fair amount of shavings. Any material surrounding the magnet is metal not clutch material.
I do have a pic from the tray when I drained the converter. would that do?
I'm not planning to pull the carter before I ordered the filter, and then I also have to pull the transmission, while I have to replace the convertor seal. (I still have the first model silicone one which might be dried out. and I intended to exchange to a viton one.)
