If by Air filter kits, you mean an Air Intake, I can help. From what I hear on this forum, don't bother with a K&N intake. It's nothing compared to either a Tymar intake (which is considered the best) or an AFE. If anything, go for a tymar intake if you want to get the most out of your truck. It's the biggest and best out there. From what I've heard, your truck will thank you for it by performing better. You'll get better gas mileage (1-3 mpg maybe more or less), more horsepower, more torque and better acceleration. If you want a tymar intake go here: http://www.tymarperformance.com call and ask for Dale. He's available after 3pm, before that, he's terribly busy. Mention this website/forum and it should get things moving along for you. As far as AFE goes, it maintains a stock yet, stylish look; but at the same time it gives you great performance. You can see what it looks like at http://www.afefilters.com/intakeford.asp
There's always a lot of debate about Tymar vs. AFE. Most of the people who post here seem to favor the tymar.
From what I have gathered the AFE will flow better than the Tymar. And most of the reports I have read from people with the AFE say that when they have serviced the filter that they checked for any dust past the filter in the intake and didn't find any. There are a couple of options if you like the AFE but would want extra filtering capablities.....1)add the pre filter to the standard AFE filter.......2)go with the Progaurd 7 filter (I think that's what it's called), it will filter better than the standard AFE.....I haven't looked at the flow charts that compare the two though.
FWIW, I've also read posts of guys who run some pretty good power (high 13's in the 1/4 mile) who ran the AFE and then tried the Tymar. They posted that with the Tymar it was almost like their engine was starving for air compared to how it performed with the AFE.
There is a good amount of info on the Tymar and AFE here.
When I first bought my truck , I went with an AFE system , and was more than happy with the results.
I am currently running a "Tymar" style setup , with the same huge Donalson filter , and some custom pipes I welded up and had ceramic coated to fight heat soak.
I have to disagree with DCSpecial, I believe that the Tymar flows more air than the AFE. It depends on who you talk to. Tymar's tests show more airflow than AFE and AFE's show more airflow than a "Tymar-like" setup. The Tymar does filter better than the AFE regardless. Here's a link to some pics of the Tymar:
The third option is the Ford Severe Duty Intake. Looks just like the factory intake because it is from Ford. The filter is huge(takes up the entire new box. Also comes with new a battery tray which makes the driver side battery easier to access. The Motocraft part number is FA-1759 and the Ford Number is 2U2Z9K635AA. Cost under $200. It does not seem to increase any performance areas, and the replacement filters cost $80.00 each.
fhartell....
you can also go the the main page of community webshots and type in the search for tymar and get about 100 different pictures of each person's setup. I have done this already.
DCSpecial:
I don't have a tymar-like filter yet, but am about 99.9% sold on the idea. the only thing that has stopped me so far is I think I would prefer to go to our local auto store and check on the prices to see if I could build my own considerably cheaper. I don't understand how the enigine could be "starved" for air with a tymar....escpecially since it is so much better than stock.
My main interest in the tymar is to keep dust out of my engine. I am not doing it for performance gains, however if they come with it GREAT! I have been researching this setup for quite sometime, both on this website and others. I have seen the AFE comparision chart where they show higher airflow, but at the same time would think the open element would have "more" access to air because it is an open filter.
Fisher of man, I honestly tried to duplicate the Tymar part for part. And it was not worth it. I only saved about $20. Not including my time researching, phone calls, and shipping for all the stuff to my house. I then priced a "Tymar like" set up, I saved about $40, but would have looked home made (no I did not try to use PVC pipe). So I just bought one and have not regretted it. My last replacement Donaldson was $27 including $5 for shipping. If I remember correct the cost for the Tymar was under $120 but prices do vary a little depending on year/model. Call Dale for the current prices. So as you can see the Tymar is VERY competively priced. I do not remember exactly what the AFE costs, but I do remember it was more than the Ford Severe Duty system. I hear the Ford SDS is good at filtering, but @ $80/filter it darn well better be.

I was referring to posts like this (copied and pasted from another site):
Originally posted by joediesle I had a tymar on my truck for a few months and all I know is that my EGT's went up and the motor felt like it was choking at higher rpms. I went back to my afe and those 2 problems went away plus every time I clean my afe I check the intake for any kind of dirt or dust and it is always spotless, so in my eye's it's working the way it's suppost to. A few other guys I know complained about there engines chocking up top too when using the tymar, maybe only highly modified PSD's notice this.
And here is his list of mods:

Made my own tymar type system, whole thing cost roughly 40 bucks.
Napa air filter #6637 cost $23.00
4" stainless elbow at local heavy truck shop $15.00
Rubber pipe connector seal with hose clamps, purchased at my local Menards hardware store $2.37
Made a noticable difference in power and I just love the turbo whine. I'm much happier with this system than the stock airbox, I sure there is no dirt getting into the engine.
thanks for the input guys...I'm gonna look tomorrow and this weekend...if I can't find the parts I need as cheap as I think I can (like Chipper) then I will give Dale a call.
