Wheels

Installing a CVPI and looking for 5 spoke Crager type chrome wheels. I’d like to keep the 5x4.5 bolt pattern in the front and put on a 17x8” wheel and the 5x5.5 bolt pattern in the rear with a 17x10” wheel. What do you guys think?

What offset set do you guys suggest?

Any suggestions on good old quality wheels at a reasonable cost?

TIA

You aren't probably going to find any old SS Cragers with the big offset the CV is designed for and to get under the fenders. And you surely won't find old 17s

What are your suggestions? I would love to run an 8” wide on the front an at least a 10” on the rear. Should I go with 16’s or 15’s all around?

I'm no expert here but finding 15s to fit the front might be a little tough. Just my 2 cents but one of the reasons I'm not a huge CV ifs fan is that you can't get the look of a tire wheel combo I like on them. How about cop car 17 steelys with poverty caps?

15's and possibly some 16's might not fit due to the size of the brake rotor, too. Something to consider.

Go to Summit Racing's site to search for wheels. 10s of thousands of options from really cheap to really expensive and real easy to search by specs required.

I've recently installed aftermarket wheels and tires. What I've done will not help spec wise for wheels for what you are doing but I found that a 17" wheel gets the most options for tires, with very reasonable pricing. Most of those options are in the 25-26" diameter range and the sidewall is much thinner and the tire is smaller than I pictured in my mind. The 275/40-17s for the rear are quite a different look than the 275/60-15s that I had and I have not decided if I like it.

To sum it up, think about the look you want, how you want the wheel and tire to fill the wheel wells then figure out which approximate tire size give you the most options for the desired look and then decide on a wheel size and then see if you can actually find wheels you like in that size. You don't just want to pick a wheel blindly and then find out that the only tire options are $300-$400 each or more.

Another thing you can use to your advantage is wheel adapters for the rear. That will open up more wheel options because of the more common bolt pattern and somewhat customizeable offset.
