I have to completely replace my exhaust because the PO hacked it together, will 2.25" duals be fine? I would be using an X pipe so it wouldn't be straight "True" duals
I already have all the bends and pipe to run from the headers down to where the Y collector would go just not sure if I want to put an X and two Mufflers or just the Y. Engine is Bored .30 over and has a mild cam + 6 liter tune up other than that it's stock
I decided to retain a single exhaust when I redid mine. I went with 3 inch thought it would be the best setup for future motor plans. It is my understanding that single works better in these trucks. I've known people with Ford, Chevy, and Dodge trucks of this era that converted to true dual exhaust and saw fuel economy drop.
After getting a lot of recommendations from this board when I put on a new exhaust last year I ultimately decided on long tube headers into a "y" and 2.5" the rest of the way back along the passenger side. This is what most members here do with these trucks and can say I am pleased with how everything turned out. A 3" single is also a good idea, but I'd forget about an X pipe and dual exhaust. Good luck with whatever you decide.
I suggest finishing the system out completely with a tail pipe. I've had turn down exhaust under the bed and it is just something that gets annoying after a while.
