That MPG isn't surprising with that engine combined with OD and 3.50 gears. I had a 454 FE (427 stroker lowriser) topped with 2x4 600 Holleys running through a Toploader 4 speed and 3.00 geared 9" and got 20 mpg once on a 120 mile R/T driving conservatively (60 mph) Engine was really doing no more than running at a fast idle at that mph and running on both secondary sides of the 600's (throttle barely cracked open).

Made major changes to truck. Now should get at least 3x the mpg and make more power.

probably go 800 miles minimum on fuel fill.

Absolutely beautiful work. I had a 1966 Ford Fairlane 390GT and took the 390 out and put in a 427 with headers. It had 3.25 gears. I drove it from San Bernardino Ca. to Long Beach Ca. never touching the gas pedal. I left each stop light idling. I can't remember what my top speed was, but I do remember getting 19 mpg. I would never do that again. 12 mpg was a good day with that car on a daily basis.

Still have my 69 Mach 1 428CJ. 350 rear, C6 and on a good day clear highway and behaving myself, she's proud to get 13 mpg. Everything stock except for the Thermodyne aluminum radiator and electric fans.

Smile Mustang Mach1

I had a 1970 Mach1 428scj four speed, 3.90 gears, drag pack, black with white interior, shaker hood scoop and louvers over back glass. When I got married I traded it in for a pickup and camper.
BIG MISTAKE
Oh well, it was fun while I had it. It was very fast for the day.
I am glad to see you still have yours.

Very nice. I hope you keep it in the family.
I feel the same way about our Falcon, but do not have any children to will it to.
Before I die, I would like to run it with full nitrous, just to see what it would do. Right now the only thing stopping me is FEAR....

Being the original owner of your Mach1 is very special.

And no one in the family capable or willing to keep it up when I'm gone. Guess at that point I really won't care. LOL

i have another FE f100 I get incredible mpg with. 22-23 mph @ 65 mph. But it has optimal combo. Stock 352 2v with 3.25 gearing plus the Factory OverDrive.

Sold the 482” FE
wanted more HP & TQ along with much better driveability and MPG. Taking it on lower 48 state trip. Plan is to do the 6 cyl swap for around 50% cost of the FE.
still have other FE trucks.

last tank with 482 I went 88 miles. Plan now is to be able to go 10x that on single fuel fill.

the 10spd auto should help.

6 cyl 10spd.

Clears the firewall just fine have not hung the inner fenders yet but on last swap I did mod them slightly up top for clearance for the large air box and functional ram air.

The 10R80 is a very tall transmission but it clears. I used stock F150 engine mounts and stock ' 66 transmission crossmembers but had to mod them slightly, rear one is a bit further back from stock
