I'm getting my 2000 f350 ready to drive it on a 15,000 mile road trip to Alaska and around the US. I am going to change the differential oil before I go and planned to change the rear differential cover as well. I was told yesterday that a differential cover for a 450 will fit the 350 and that the 450 cover has fins on it, which I something I was seriously considering buying. I don't want to spend $200+ for a new cover so I'm wondering if what I was told is true and if so do I need a gasket for it or did they use some kind of compound to make the gasket. Anybody?
What he said above does apply you can use this one instead it’s a ford oem part that came on 08 and up diesels you will need some longer bolts I think it’s a 5/16”-18x1 1/4” or 5/16”-18x1 1/2” you can get them at Home Depot. You will also need some gasket maker.
I just did my F250 and bought a unpainted cast aluminum aftermarket cover off eBay for $52 and it has a drain plug and it comes with new bolts. The stock aluminum doesn't have a drain plug.
