I need to route some small (14-16 gauge) wires from the engine compartment to an area under the dash, near the steering column. I plan to drill a 1/4 inch hole in the firewall, just above the grommet where most of the factory wires penetrate the firewall. Seems to be clean real estate there.
Does anyone know of a reason I should NOT do this?
Super Duty should have some pass thru wires already installed at the factory. On my 2015 they are on the driver side behind the fuse box. They aren't very long. I soldered extensions on them in the engine and cab compartments.
Good info, much appreciated. I'll look and see if they are there. I saw a bundle of short cut wires in that vicinity, but I thought they were upfitter switch wires.
pass through wires are on the passenger side, up high under the dash and taped to the harness in the engine compartment, there is another thread that has pictures. Here you go, post 32 has a picture of the pass through wires inside, 42 has a picture under the hood. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...or-device.html
I went to a business that sets up police, fire and anyone needing wiring installed. The tech put two nmo antenna mounts in the roof. As an after thought asked where he would run power wires through firewall, he showed me and said he would do it at no extra cost. Same place you are talking about. 3/4 inch hole, never know if I need more wires.
