I have 1997 Ford F250 7.3. Lately I have been having problems like I go to start it up and it takes forever to start and blows out white smoke. Once it’s going it drives ok until 5 minutes down the road then the RPMs go down and once I come to a complete stop it dies. Once I get it started again it is just fine and I get to work ok. White smoke also comes out when I leave work and I cant get the RPMs to get over 1500 and it consistently blows white smoke for about 2 minutes then runs just fine. Another problem that I noticed is when I’m driving and let of the peddle it wants to die and I once I hit the peddle again it continues to run until I come to a complete stop then push the peddle again and as soon as I do the truck shuts off.
One of my Friends thinks I have water in the fuel another friend thinks I have a bad injector. I'm trying to figure out the problem so I can figure out if its a problem I can fix my self or I need to send it to a shop.
Could be water in the fuel, that's why we have a fuel bowl with a drain on it. The water will seperate in the bowl and you can drain it off if you crack the filter and turn the lever.
It honestly sounds like your exhaust back pressure valve is sticking open.
When its running really boggy, does the turbo and everything sound more wooshy and different?
