Question Problem with lower lock latch E350

Help.....I have a 1995 E350 van....converted to a basic camper. Have developed problem with sliding door in that it will no longer latch/lock in the open position. Not fun when it slides shut on you on an incline...drat! I've pulled some of the camper kit and the basic ford coverings to look at what's going on. The cable to activate the unlatch lever (bottom) works but there seems to be something missing that would activiate the "lock" when you open the door. Does anyone have an idea of where I can find a really good diagram that would show me what should be along the track and fastened to the body that is the actuator? I have the manuals for the vehicle which shows a part in the location I've exposed but I really need to know what this part is supposed to look like, top and underside. Any information will be greatly appreciated. THank you.

Sorry, no experience with sliding door and since they are minority, you may not get a lot of replies. One issue with the regular doors is the end of the cable casings. They are plastic and overtime time they dry and break. Maybe you have one of this cables on the open- door latch. Another possibility is that the lach closed without engaging and needs to be open.

Good luck.

Thank you GreeVan....I've checked everything but the small latch I'm having a problem with just will not activate to hold the sliding door in the full "open" position. My next step is going to be searching local junkyards to see if I can find a van like mine and check the part....otherwise I may just make a "door stop" for it.

I have a sliding door van. I’ve had that issue a time or two and it’s always been caused by some item in the track, blocking the door from moving all the way.

I could get some pics if you want.

Sometimes I get busy and don’t log in FTE for a couple days. So if you want to rush me, send a PM.

Thank you....would love some pics of your sliding door sliding latch...I can't figure out PM so will just have to await your next time on FTE....meanwhile, I will go back out and double check to be sure there isn't something in the track....Ii didn't see anything the first time but one never knows. Any pics you can send will be really helpful in letting me figure out if there is something missing that just isn't obvious..

Hi there IM50FAST.....thanks so much for your input. Would still appreciate pics but you don't have to worry if you don't send. Thanks to your suggestion, I went back in and took another look at everything and discovered the problem and fixed the door ......turns out I use heavy duty magnets for some of the screens and one had fallen down and somehow managed to find it's way into the track.....thanks again for helping me save the cost of having a body shop take a look. Definitely cheaper to fix things on one's own with help from others who have been there, done that.
