Just walked out to the truck and saw another broken overload spring. I have no idea when this happened. The passenger side I saw broken after driving around the
woods I figured one of the bumps blew it out. So here’s the scenario: apparently my rear axle is some Taiwan one it’s been on the truck for at the min 70,000 Miles put in my the previous owner. The pinion went out 30k ago and the mechanic “rebuilt it” I priced out the overload spring at 80 each plus 75 for another set of 3/4 in u bolts plus the e brake is done.!
Idk if I should buy a used ford axle been seeing them go for 4-700 even complete leaf springs. Should I swap the entire axle for a ford or work with what I have?
I really don't get the Taiwan axle thingy ... didn't even know you could even get an imported rear axle for our trucks. Anyway, are you having problems with the axle or just the overloads breaking? Are you beating the crap out of them or just "normal" driving? If it were me, I'd just replace the overloads, u-bolts and e-brake if the rest is working OK.
Same here just what the mechanic said the slip yolk broke years ago clearly pot metal and looked like junk next to the ford billet part. The seems to be doing fine going to open it up to change the fluid one of these weeks coming up. When the passenger side broke I was in some rough stuff but the drivers side appeared with only daily driving as of late. I’m just looking at it like how much could I sell this one for with paperwork of the rebuild vs spending more money on the assembly. Also if it’s worth messing with another rear end or not. Of course then I’m sure the classic while it’s off the truck syndrome will kick in and maybe I’ll need a locker as well lol
