replacing split rims on f5

Hello,
I have a 1949 f5 that i'm dying to get on the road, but it still has the old split rims and I'd like to get some tubeless replacements. I've heard that dodge made some 19.5 budd rims that would work, but I haven't had any luck finding any for sale. I'd like to know if anybody knows where I might be able to get a set?

Don't know where you're located, but if you're not a purist and aren't concerned about how many handholds you have, you can always get brand new 19.5 and 22.5 wheels through Les Schwab, American Wheel Specialties, and others. The reason the face seems so wide is that these centers are punched out to fit the 10 stud and hub piloted patterns as well. Also, these wheels are DOT certified for load capacity. Pictured is my 9R22.5 against a 8.25x20. Same 38" diameter.

Your profile shows you live in MI, and your album has pictures of locking side ring wheels. Those are not the really dangerous kind called “widow makers”. You can still get the locking side ring kind serviced and avoid a lot of extra cost replacing wheels. You might do a Google search to see if you do have any “Firestone RH-5°” type widow makers mixed in with the locking ring type we can see. If so you might just replace the RH-5° ones and keep the others in service. Stu

Actually depends on which split rim you have. The lock ring style is still acceptable, the widow makers are not. Truck Dog is the go-to wheel guy here.

Click on his user name Bob, “view public profile” then his “about me” to see he’s in Michigan. And you’ll see the pictures of the locking side ring wheels. But as always, he’d have to check all six to verify that some widow makers aren’t hiding on there somewhere. Stu

Thanks, I'll check into those.

Unfortunately, that is the only one of my rims with the lock ring.

Hmmm, too bad. As spring comes you might visit salvage yards with a focus on old dead motor homes. The 19.5s were real common on 1970s/80s era Class A units. Dodge and Ford. Avoid the motor homes with 10 lugs on the back and 5 up front. Those are Chevy based. Stu

I see that now. Thanks for the tip. Didn't know about that.

These on my truck are original 22.5 one piece wheels. Hard to find. They are from 50s 60s era. May have went into early 70s but not 100% sure. truck is an f6. Is the 19.5 wheel the size you want?

The last listings I have for 22.5s were Budd in 1979 and Accuride in 1981. The 19.5s are so much easier to find it makes them a fall back option. The good used 22.5s are really hard to find which makes the new ones worth a look. Stu

Not sure how wide these lock rings would be but they have 4. https://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/p...510814057.html I wish Wheels Now would use the centers they use on the 6 lug rims.

The AA wheels have a 5 lug x 6 7/8” bolt pattern, meaning these won’t fit. The 5 x 8” was first used in 1934. These early wheels also are much narrower, and have a lot less offset than later wheels. Stu

I know what it's like to have to search for these things. I was going to start a new project but my 2.5 year old is sucking my spare time from me (which I'm NOT complaining about!) so I have a full set (6) of 20" 5 lug 20" Budds with the outer lock ring. Message me if you're interested. I'm in Connecticut.
