2002 Excursion - White Elephant

New to me, white Limited 02 Ex, 7.3 PSD with 180k on the clock. I looked for nearly six months and a few dozen vehicles to find something straight and not ragged out. I even flew to KY once, but that was a bust.

Of course, the truck I find is local!

I've been driving the family wagon around as my DD for about a year now with few complaints. Trips include regular visits to the mtns of NC around Boone. I love the power going up the MTN!!! Great family wagon for our frequent traveling. No more problems with luggage and the dogs all riding comfortably.

There have been some upgrades and repairs with a few more to come.

New water pump and remote coolant filter.
Coolant flush
New thermostat and hoses.
Serpentine belt
Idler pulley
K&N intake (had one from a 7.3 PSD my dad owned still laying around)
LED lights inside, reverse light, fog lights
Back up camera
New drag links
Powerstop Brakes and rotors
Flushed the brake fluid
New door lock actuators (thank you for the secret tab getting those things off and on)
Kiwi OB2 and Torque
Replaced rear diff fluid and resealed the cover. No heavy metals on the magnet.

Still on the list:

New ATS V codes - Hopefully this weekend. I can't wait to see if it's as good as everyone says it is.
New Bora spacers - Should be here this week.
2017 Platinum wheels - picked these up last week.
B codes - picked these up from a member here last week. If the truck sets level after the Vs, I might just let this wait.
New bump stops. Mine are long gone. Another item when I handle the springs.
Picked up a hub grease fitting from RiffRaff, tackle that when I do the springs.
New tires - I haven't decided yet on brand but would like 275/65/20 under there as I understand it's possible after pinning the wheel wells back and adding the turn stop mod.
New headlights - OG ones just aren't cutting it. I've searched on the subject but have had any real definitive answers.
Replace the dog ear mirrors with PF option.option
New 2wd rear lift gate struts - install those when I have some hands to help.
Undecided in a Hellwig. I don't tow, so I'm not sure if it's worth it.
Want to remove the gold cladding, replace the running boards.

Any other improvements without going over the top?

Also truck came chipped, but it's on the lowest setting (for fuel efficiency is the word from PO). Haven't messed with it as it is just peppy enough to be similar to my dad's 6.0 PSD. I really just don't know a lot about the tuner.

Avg around 16 MPG. No noticeble oil loss between changes for a diesel.

I just love this truck.

Get rid of the k&n filter. Well known to let some dirt debris pass thru and pit up your turbo wheel. I just got the rear sway bar from another forum member that upgraded to Hellwig. Also I think the one off a superduty will work as well.

Want to remove the gold cladding, ....
A rear anti-roll bar is not just for towing, it helps with overall handling.
I've upgraded the front and rear to Hellwig bars and ours handles amazing.
Consider that the F250s, Expeditions, Explorers and many other vehicles come with the rear anti-roll bar as OEM.
For improved vehicle control when towing the "tow packages" usually include larger than standard anti-roll bars.
What do want for the gold cladding?
Our 2002 white Ltd needs some pieces replaced, previous owner go too close to the garage door opening, but it was garaged for the first 12 years of its' life.

Prepping for V's

Hit all my hardware with some penetration oil tonight. Go ahead and give it time to work.

Got a look at the drag links that were changed out a few days ago. It was dark when I finished so I didn't get a chance to see how worn out they were.

So much nicer to drive without the clunk!

Sweet nectar!!

I'll be hosting a few after this spring swap this afternoon. Got a buddy on board, so hopefully it doesn't take long.
